Editorial Policy
How Native Media decides what to publish, how it labels it, and how it corrects mistakes.
Last updated: 6 October 2026
Our principles
- Accuracy. We use verifiable sources and document the basis of what we publish.
- Context. We tell African stories with the history and background that give them meaning.
- Independence. Native Media keeps editorial responsibility for its own work.
- Transparency. We disclose sponsorship, methods and corrections.
- Accountability. We keep a visible corrections process and preserve the record.
How we label content
Every story is labelled so that readers always know what they are reading:
- Reporting. Original reporting based on sources and interviews.
- Research-based analysis. Analysis built on documented research and data.
- Opinion. A view or commentary. It is not a statement of fact.
- Institutional statement. A statement from an institution, published as supplied.
- Sponsored content. Paid content. It does not determine Native Media’s editorial coverage.
We do not use a breaking-news format, and we do not publish unverified claims as fact.
Independence and sponsorship
Paid or sponsored content is always clearly labelled. Sponsors, advisers and partners do not direct editorial content, choose sources, or decide conclusions. We describe an organization as a partner, sponsor or endorser only when the relationship is confirmed and we have permission to say so. We never imply government affiliation or institutional approval that does not exist. Our institutional publications follow additional rules, set out in each publication’s methodology and sponsorship pages.
Guests and interviews
For African Intelligence, we publish guest biographies and details that the guest has provided or approved. Episode descriptions summarize the conversation and are not endorsements of a guest’s views by Native Media.
Images and artwork
We use documentary photography where possible. Artwork created with AI is labelled as AI-generated.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we correct it openly and say what changed. To report an error, contact us with the page, what you believe is wrong, and a source.
Conflicts of interest
Where a story or publication involves an organization that is a client, sponsor or partner of Native Media, we say so.
